Ice makers and clear-ice machines in Downtown towers
Most downtown ice complaints are water complaints. Water gets to your kitchen through a building riser and a pressure regulator rather than straight off a street main, and on a high floor the static pressure sitting at the ice maker inlet valve can be at the bottom of what the machine needs to fill its mold. A valve that only half fills produces exactly the small, hollow, half-formed cubes people replace a module over. No ice at all, in a freezer that is otherwise cold, is the other job entirely, and it lives in the harvest gear: the module, its thermostat, its motor.
